Wow!
What an amazing weekend as we wrapped one of our first shows back with Nouveau Sud in this “post pandemic” world. It was an honor and a pleasure to revive one of our favorite short programs “Recuerdame”. There couldn’t be a more appropriate festival for this Dia de Los Muertos homage than Hola Fest and we are so thankful for their trust in the company and the company’s trust in us as lead principals for this story.
I was feeling super sappy and wrote out a caption to commemorate this moment, this energy, this resurgence, and also to further drive home the need for the type of work that Nouveau Sud does with circus arts- the importance for us as artists to have pride in what we do and always strive to use these skills we work so hard for to say something.
If you’d like to check that out, peep my instagram @aerien.edge! I’ll also insert some images from the event here for you all to enjoy- they were shot by none other than @shootbt.
Looking towards the future, we are slated to perform a corporate gig in Asheville soon and it will be my first lollipop lyra act. They originally wanted some ambiance but we ended up being able to do just stage acts for both the lyra and partnering/adagio which makes my heart so happy. I truly believe that what we as circus artists do, the extraordinary, is so beautiful and amazing that it should always be done so in a stage act manner wherein we have the audience’s full attention as opposed to being made a side spectacle or ornament. I understand that the culture in corporate spaces has made this the norm but a part of the work I am passionate about is changing that culture to be more respectful of us as artists, athletes, and humans. But I digress.
We’re also potentially cooking up a new main stage production that will address, of course, another hard hitting topic we have yet to tackle as Nouveau Sud and for my own personal projects, I’ve applied to create an act in Shadows at Bloom Movement Artistry that has been brewing inside of me for the last year. I won’t go too into detail about that until they announce the performers but either way this is a piece I know I need to bring into the world for my own catharsis and I’m thankful for Bloom for facilitating these types of opportunities for their community to perform their own passion projects.
As far as coaching, we’ve been discussing many workshop, series, and jam type ideas/events etc so when we get anything solidified more we will, of course be updating on our various social medias and here!
Looking forward to so much more circus and love in this life. ❤ Opa!
