Hey all!
Just wanted to hop on and give a little update of where we’ve been and what’s ahead.
This past month has had some very interesting events – we were invited to disrupt the Verse & Vino event at the Charlotte Convention Center in our Nouveau Sud / Circus way with a procession of music, trumpets, percussions, fanfare etc and quick flashes of bboying, swing toss, and adagio/partner acro. I inserted some pics of us scoping the venue to mark our path, rehearsing in the lobby area, and a post performance silly group pic w/ the lovely trumpeteers of UNCC that were able to step in for us on short notice. The event invited many award winning authors and had fun photo areas/sets made to look like the setting of various books. There was a huge table set up as well where it looked like attendees could purchase them!
Next up, Jordan & I were able to work with Down To Earth Aerials for the first time and they are so awesome and professional- we look forward to more works with them in the future! Of course, Jarrell was there as well and we had an awesome time exploring Asheville the day after the gala! The Grand Bohemian was a lovely venue full of quirky touches and opulence. I debuted a lollipop act set to live electric violin, we performed our adagio, and Jarrell did his cyr act in the tiniest space I’ve ever seen him perform. Check out the video and those big crystal chandeliers! Trust me, we had our eyes on them the entire time. I also included photos of us from the gig– I actually did the makeup for everyone and feel pretty proud of it if I do say so myself, although I don’t claim to be a makeup artist of any sort heh heh.
Looking to the future, Jarrell’s program to start a circus arts club w/ the help of Lorien Academy has finally found itself a home school! We are so excited to start teaching the kids there and these types of actions are very near and dear to our heart. Representation, exposure to the arts, education and empowerment– all extremely necessary and I’m so glad we never gave up even though it took us a bit longer than any of us would’ve liked to get the ball rolling but here we are! Jordan helped load the rig into the school this past week and we are set to start after the kids get their paperwork in! I’m so excited and blessed to be a part of this endeavor and cannot wait to teach these kids some of the things we love.
More to come as holiday gigs are looming right around the corner and a new year marks new creations to come. On the immediate horizon is Shadows at Bloom Movement Artistry — although the idea of finally creating an act drawn from very personal struggles to me currently sounds cathartic it is also daunting especially as I haven’t really had much time or brain space to choreograph it. Worst (or is it best?) case scenario I will improv the whole thing and feel my feelings, but I would like to be able to have it choreographed as I feel that choreo is definitely a weaker suit of mine than improv and I’d love to challenge myself to see how much of my potential I could unlock in creating an act I am fully and wholly proud of. I know at this point whatever I create will surely be a works in progress look by the time December 10th rolls around but no matter what, as artists, when we step on that stage we put forth our whole effort and heart there- so rest assured you will see that. Check out the main page for ticket links! It’s how performers for this showcase will be paid and there is also a livestream virtual option for those who are not local to us!
Thanks for following along on our journey ❤
