Jesus what a whirlwind these past few months have been!
Coming back from Chicago and straight into the next mainstage production with our Ricochet Works in Progress showing.
The process of creating Ricochet was certainly one of many many many conversations as the topic of gun violence and violence in this society in general is SOOO broad and contentious. There were laughs, tears, anxiety attacks- my god… you name it, the process of Ricochet had it.
On top of it being this heavy topic and short time crunch- we also were working with the smallest cast we’ve ever had to date of just 6 local company members. All things considered, I’m immensely proud of everyone involved and impressed by what we were able to accomplish.
The audience reception and feedback was extremely valuable and validating to the work we are doing. On my social media I go into depth in certain posts on the topic itself and the inspo for certain acts. I was also very ardent on making sure our program reflected our company mission and values by not leaving out the specifics on how BIPOC are affected by this topic- this took the form of an educational blurb I wrote on The Black Panther Party and some history around gun control as it pertains to maintaining white supremacy. In future iterations I’d love to expand even more with BIPOC specific stats and facts.
I’m very excited to continue refining this work, our own pieces, and adding a more concise through-line but also being careful not to overwork the show. Stay tuned for more details on the future of Ricochet: Within the Echo of Violence. Until then, here’s a gallery of some moments on stage. ❤
