This June I had the privilege of joining Purple Onyx Productions cast and bring to life an immersive listening party of Prince’s Purple Rain album in honor of its 40th anniversary!
We were able to work with an amazing mostly BIPOC cast in Chicago and I was able to see some members of the BIPOC Circus Alliance in person. It was such a fun, impactful, and memorable experience- especially to be back at the beautiful Aloft Circus Arts as a venue.
My act was to “Darling Nikki” on the silks- it was fun to take a break from some of the heavier subject materials we’re accustomed to tackling and dive into all the energy, fun, chaos, and sensuality that is Prince.
I really enjoyed every single person that we were able to work with- everyone was so beautiful, personable, and passionate. Chris, the producer, put so much intention and effort into it and it really showed! The energy of Chicago is just invigorating! I’ve really come to love the city, its history, and its communities… and the food, duh.
Being a part of a cast that was so supportive felt immensely empowering and I loved getting to create those new relationships and reinforce older ones! Plus, bringing the joy and music of Prince to life was such an honor and a privilege. ❤ Anywho- here’s some pics! And I can’t wait to see what else Purple Onyx Productions has up its sleeves.
